8741402150 77c95d4e4d zWe are very happy to present you a very important Sutta discourse conducted by Most Ven. U. Dhammajiva Maha Thero at Mitirigala Nissaranavanaya Monastery. This was conducted at a residential meditation retreat during October 2014 in Sinhala.

This Sutta of Lord Buddha is relatively unknown among the English listeners. The Sutta is like a Breath of Fresh Air to those seekers and travelers of the Noble Path. Also it is seemingly contradictory to a well-known Sutta of the Buddha – the Adittapariyaya Sutta (Fire Sermon). In Adittapariyaya Sutta the Lord Buddha states that an unenlightened person’s final thought in this life is a clear decisive factor for the next birth of that person. However, in Sothanudhatha Sutta the Buddha states that a person will get born in a heavenly abode and then reach enlightenment in that heavenly life – even if that person’s last thought was impure!  In Sothanudhatha Sutta the Lord Buddha explains as to how that could be achieved!

We have also included a PDF file of the Thera Gatha from Buddha Jayanthi Tripitaka Publication. Please click here to download the PDF file.
