We are pleased to provide the recordings of the above sutta conducted at Mitirigala Nissaranavanaya Forest Monastery by Most Ven. U. Dhammajiva Maha Thero. Upawana Sutta is a valuable discourse based on a discussion between Ven. Sariputta and Ven. Upawana. The Sutta focuses on the development of Bojjhanga, which are the seven factors of enlightenment.

In this Upawana Sutta – Part 1 of the sutta discourse, specific emphasis is placed by Most Ven. U. Dhammajiva Maha Thero on developing Sati or Mindfulness up to the level of Bojjhanga. The Maha Thero explains that there are 8 stages for the development of Mindfulness before attaining the 1st stage of enlightenment, the stage of Sotāpanna. The Maha Thero explains the various hurdles or blocks faced by the progressing Yogi when trying to develop the Sati upto the level of Bojjhanga Sati.
