Dasuttara Sutta – Part 40

Most Ven. U. Dhammajiva Maha Thero continued on his long series on Dasuttara Sutta by conducting the 40th part during mid April 2017. The retreat was the 144th residential program to be conducted at the monastery.

This 144th residential retreat was specifically conducted for school teachers. There were about 40 teachers and a balance group of 50 yogis for this retreat conducted immediately after the Sinhalese New Year. The retreat was specifically conducted on the seven factors that needs to be learned about Vingnanaya (විඥානය).

Dasuttara is the last (thirty fourth) Sutta of the Digha Nikaya, preached by Arahanth Sariputta at the Gaggarapokkharani in Campa, in the presence of the Lord Buddha. It consists of groups of doctrines – ten single doctrines, ten twofold doctrines, and so on up to ten tenfold (D.iii.272). It is said that at the end of the discourse five hundred monks became Arahants.
