A simile of the King’s Elephant is used in the Naga Sutta

We are pleased to present another important Sutta of the Lord Buddha preached by Most Ven. U. Dhammajiva Maha Thero. In this Sutta the Buddha firstly emphasize the importance of listening in order to become a real follower of the Path. The Sutta discourse was conducted by Most Ven. U. Dhammajiva Maha Thero during a residential Meditation retreat at Mitirigala Nissaranavanaya Monastery.

Contrary to the popular belief, the ability to really listen to Dhamma is not possible to the majority of Buddhists. As explained by Most Ven. Dhammajiva Maha Thero, it is a rare ability and a skill even during the Lord Buddha’s time. The Buddha uses the elephant of the King as a simile to point out various important elements of the Sutta.

We are pleased to provide a PDF of the Sutta from Buddha Jayanthi Tripitaka. Please click here to download the PDF of the Sutta.
