Dasuttara Sutta (In English) was the Sutta taken for Dhamma discourses at the 100th residential meditation retreat conducted at Mitirigala Nissaranavanaya Forest Monastery. The series was conducted by Most Ven. U. Dhammajiva Maha Thero. This same sutta was taken for discussion in June 2015 by the Maha Thero at Florida, U.S.A.

Dasuttara Sutta is the 34th or the last Sutta of Digha Nikaya preached by the Chief Disciple Most Ven. Sariputta at the Gaggarāpokkharani in Campā, in the presence of the Lord Buddha. It is said that at the end of the discourse five hundred monks became Arahants.

The Sutta consists of groups of doctrines – ten single doctrines, ten twofold doctrines, and so on up to ten tenfold. The Sutta is mentioned as describing the pārisuddhipadhāniyanga.

In this long Sutta, the Arahanth Ven. Sariputta describes things to be abandoned: “the ‘I am’ conceit”; “ignorance and craving for existence”; the three kinds of craving; the four “floods”- of sense-desire, existence, views and ignorance; the five hindrances; craving for the six sense-objects; the seven latent tendencies – to sense-desire, ill-will, views, wavering, conceit, attachment to existence, and ignorance; the eight wrongfulness – wrong view to wrong mental unification; the nine things rooted in craving, such as quarreling over possessions; the ten wrongfulness – wrong view to wrong mental unification, the wrong knowledge and wrong liberation.
